Station Situation
Devils Dyke Wendy station is on top of the famous Devils Dyke Hotel, near Poynings, some 4 miles north of Brighton, on the South Downs. For detailed location, see the linked map.|OS Grid ref:

Interpreting Readings
The actual site at Devils Dyke takes winds principally from N, NNW, and NW, but the Wendy station is used to check the winds for other nearby hills, which take other wind directions. The station is screened slightly by trees in Easterly and Southwesterly winds, and may under-read in those directions. The anemometer is approx 60 feet above ground level. more...
Pilot Notes
The site is used by Hang Gliders, and Paragliders, who belong to the Southern Hang Gliding Club, who should be contacted before flying a Hang or Paraglider in the area. The site is also used by model flyers, slope soarers, and is a pleasant recreational area, with a good view of the South Downs. There is a golf club nearby, as well.

Service Status
I suspect there is an occasional direction error, where SW winds read out as NW instead. This means a change of anemometer head, which is right up the radio mast on top of the Dyke Hotel. That will have to wait for better weather to enable me to climb the pole safely to carry out the repair. Should be done in the next 2-3 weeks, weather permitting.
